Cyprus’ connectivity with other countries is very important for matters of tourism and the economy in general, the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides has said. He attended on Friday the presentation of the two new Airbus A220 aircrafts of Cyprus Airways’ fleet at the old Larnaka airport.
The President said that he supports all efforts to boost connectivity, adding that the new aircrafts reflect today's needs, namely environmental protection, safety issues, speed range and others.
Christodoulides said that they will meet with the authorities to discuss issues related to destinations where there is no connectivity and to examine ways to cover these gaps.
He said that all governments in Cyprus have over time developed and presented action plans to attract companies to Cyprus and to increase flights, pointing out that these efforts will continue by his government.
Replying to a question whether he will fly with one of these aircrafts he said “of course”.
He went on to say that a few days ago he traveled from Cyprus to Brussels and back using a commercial flight. The President noted the fact that there is no direct flight to Brussels and added that this issue will be discussed as Cyprus will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2026.
All aircraft arrived in Cyprus from Canada. They burn less fuel and can carry 122 passengers and 12 in Business Class. Aircraft seats and baggage compartments are larger than those in the A320. The first flight will take place on August 2 for Dubai.
