In a meeting held on Friday, delegations from the Cypriot and Greek governments focused on discussions within the framework of understanding between Athens and Nicosia regarding the electrical interconnection project between the two countries.
According to Cyprus News Agency (CNA ) sources, Cyprus' Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, George Papanastasiou, and Greece's Minister of Environment and Energy, Theodoros Skylakakis, also explored the potential participation of the Republic of Cyprus in the shareholder structure of the Greek Independent Power Transmission Operator (GSI).
Following Friday's meeting, the Cypriot government awaits an official response from the Greek Ministry of Energy to a letter sent two weeks ago by Papanastasiou. The letter, which included observations from advisors to the Cypriot government, is considered pivotal. The Greek government’s response will significantly influence Nicosia’s decision-making on the matter, according to the same sources.
Representatives from the Greek Prime Minister's Office and the Greek grid operator Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) participated in the discussions in Athens on Friday, along with officials from the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus and the Cypriot Ministry of Energy.
