Vietnam official expresses will to further develop ties with Cyprus

President of the Council of Ethnic Minorities of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam, has expressed his country's will to further develop relations with Cyprus in the fields of politics, investments and trade.

According to a press release by the House of Representatives, President of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, Haris Georgiades, met on Tuesday with a parliamentary delegation of the Council of Ethnic Minorities of the National Assembly of Vietnam, led by Chairman of the Council Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam.

Georgiades welcomed the parliamentary delegation from Vietnam pointing out that Cyprus still remains a place of security, stability and cooperation, despite being a semi-occupied country, which is located in the unstable region of the Middle East that it is currently in in a state of war.

In addition, he thanked them for the position of the Vietnamese authorities on the Cyprus issue and informed the parliamentary delegation about the commitment of the Greek Cypriot side to the goal of resuming talks to achieve a solution to the Cyprus problem, based on the UNSC resolutions. 

Georgiades stressed the readiness of the House of Representatives to develop bilateral contacts with the National Assembly of Vietnam. 

Nie Kdam expressed his country's will to further develop ties with Cyprus in the sectors of politics, trade and investments. He also informed the Cypriot side about the situation of the 54 ethnic minorities living in Vietnam.

The two sides also expressed the will for the initiation of contacts between the two parliaments through the establishment of respective Friendship Groups. 

The delegation from Vietnam also held a meeting with Representative of Armenian Religious Group at the House of Representatives, Vartkes Mahtessian, who informed them about the role of the three representatives of religious groups in the House of Representatives, with particular reference to their participation in the Parliamentary Committee on Education.
