Commerce Minister, Antonis Paschalides stated on Monday that the Ministry will examine all views with regard to Eurocypria but avoided stating his opinion on the employees’ request for a state aid of €35 million.
Speaking after his meeting with representatives of the Eurocypria trade unions, Mr. Paschalides said that he was informed about the offer and demand in tourism.
According to the CNA, responding to the question about the view of Cyprus Airways and its trade unions on Eurocypria, Mr. Paschalides said that when someone is absent, no answer must be given by other parties.
“The issue will not be solved like that. Eurocypria’s aim was to inform us on its offer and prospect. We will examine the data and we will state our view”, he noted.
General Secretary of Cyprus Private Employees Federation of SEK, Elisseos Michael, who represents the Eurocypria employees, said that during the meeting they had the opportunity to inform Mr. Paschalides on the need to support Eurocypria and the Company’s offer via the transfer of thousands of tourists in Cyprus.
After reminding that Eurocypria is active more than 20 years in Cyprus, he said that the company was profitable for 18 years. The problems appeared in the past two years.
“We believe that with the government’s support we will be able to overcome the problems and to increase the number of tourists visiting the island in the future. The increase in tourist arrivals is a common target”, he concluded.
