The US embassy in Nicosia denies today’s press reports that the American authorities have issued travel advice to the US citizens to avoid Cyprus as a tourist destination due to the anti-war demonstrations that take place on the island.
According to SW sources, the announcement by the US embassy denying the allegations was issued following the telephone communication between the Cyprus Commerce Minister, Giorgos Lillikas and the US Ambassador in Nicosia, Michael Klosson, while the embassy has already received the copies of the correspondence between the Cyprus tourist agencies and their US customers, who claimed that the American embassy in Nicosia is discouraging US citizens from visiting the island for the present.
