For the seventh consecutive year, the University of Cyprus is the only Cypriot university included in the Shanghai list, specifically among the 701-800 top universities worldwide, while it is in 3rd place compared to Greek-speaking universities.
As a press release issued by the University said on Tuesday, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), known as the Shanghai list, presents every year since 2003 the world's top universities based on a transparent methodology and objective third-party data. It has even been recognised as the forerunner of the world university ranking and the most reliable model.
This year, it added, more than 2,500 institutions were audited and the list publishes the best 1,000 universities in the world. The model was developed by Shanghai Jiaotong University and uses six indicators to evaluate universities:
The six indicators are the number of alumni and faculty who have won a Nobel or Fields Medal, the number of researchers selected by Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers, the number of articles published in leading scientific journals, the number of articles published in the Science Citation Index and the Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, as well as the performance in relation to the size of the institution.
The detailed list of the top 1,000 universities is published on the website: https://www.shanghairanking.com/news/arwu/2024.
