According to the Travelers’ Survey, the Cypriots’ trips abroad in June 2008 recorded a significant increase of 19.2% (16.4 thousand) to 101,973 compared to 85,539 in the corresponding month of 2007.
This is mostly attributable to the increased trips to Greece, UK and Israel. Trips to Greece, Cyprus’s most popular destination, climbed 20% or 5.9 thousand to 35.6 thousand from 29.7 thousand last year. Similarly, trips to the UK surged 10.6% or 2.4 thousand to 24.8 thousand.
Trips to Israel showed an increase by 1.6 thousand, followed by those to Lebanon and Syria. On the other hand, trips to Russia and Egypt fell.
57.8% of the trips were for leisure, 22.9% for professional reasons and 15.9% for educational purposes. 56.9% of the travelers were women and 43.1% men.
