Transport Minister in Luxembourg for EU Council

Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, travels to Luxembourg, to participate in the EU Transport Ministers Council to take place on Tuesday, June 18.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Transport, during the Council the EU Transport Ministers will discuss the need to increase availability of railway infrastructure and better cross-border coordination.

Also, the Council will be informed of the proposal for a Directive on the prevention of impunity for serious road traffic offenders who are not residents of a Member State, as well as on the cross-border exchange of information on road offences. The proposal for a Directive on intermodal freight transport will also be discussed.

Besides that, as noted, in the context of the preparation for the upcoming Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU in January 2026, Vafeades will hold a meeting with his Polish and Danish counterparts, to discuss and coordinate for the upcoming Presidency Trio of the Council of the EU (January 2025-June 2026).
