The most important thing is to ensure the connectivity of Cyprus with Israel, said Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, noting that this is currently ensured with eleven flights to and from Israel on Monday.
"We stay on alert", said Vafeades during his arrival at the maritime conference "Maritime Cyprus" in Limassol, noting that primarily "we are monitoring connectivity."
"We are highly interested in someone being able to travel to Israel and back. That has been secured, flights are continuing and today we have about 11 flights to and from Ben Gurion Airport”, he said.
Therefore, continued the Minister, all Cypriots, who are in Israel and all residents of Israel who want to go to Israel, can do so through one of these commercial flights.
"We are waiting to see if we need to do anything to provide any assistance", he said and added that the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides has already stated that as a country we are ready to provide health services. This, he noted, may require transport either by aircraft or ships "and we are ready to provide that".
Asked about cruise ships travelling to Israel, which ended up staying in Cyprus, the Minister said that these things are to be expected in the first days. "We have the infrastructure and we are able to welcome both tourists and ships," he noted.
Replying to another question, the Minister mentioned that the number of Israelis who have transited through Cyprus is changing and reiterated that the most important thing is to ensure connectivity.
