Transport Min appears milder for airports

Transport Minister, Nicos Nicolaides is currently waiting for the reply to the letter sent to Swissport and LGS, which undertook the handling ground services at the Larnaca and Paphos Airports, in order to decide on further actions.
The Minister, who stated last week that he will impose fines to the two companies for the chaos in the country’s airports, was milder today.
Speaking to the journalists, he said that he expects their answer today and then he will take the proper measures in order to minimize and – if possible – to eliminate the problems.
Invited to comment whether the two companies will be imposed a fine, he didn’t clarify the Ministry’s view, stressing, however, that although there are some efforts towards the right direction, they are not satisfied yet.
“We will be satisfied as soon as the problems are eliminated and the airports operate properly”, he noted.
According to Mr. Nicolaides, both the Transport Ministry and the Civil Aviation Department continue to inspect the airport services offered by the two companies and Hermes, which undertook their management in May 200. Hermes assigned the ground handling services to Swissport and LGS about a month ago.
