In the last quarter of 2022 cameras at traffic lights in Cyprus registered on average 200 violations per day compared to 800 in the first months of the same year, according to data presented during a meeting of the Road Safety Council, on Thursday.
The meeting was chaired by Transport, Communications and Works Minister Alexis Vafeades with the participation of Justice and Public Order Minister Marios Hartsiotis, members of the Police and other relevant agencies, a Transport Ministry press release said.
It added that Vafeades referred to the importance of the traffic cameras system, the only aim of which is to contribute in improving road safety and in particular reduce fatal road accidents.
The Council was informed that in the last quarter of 2022 in traffic lights where cameras operate, an average of 200 violations were recorded per day, compared to 800 registered during the first months of the same year.
"These data are encouraging," Vafeades said referring to the effectiveness of the measure.
