The Ministry of Communications intends to promote the extension of the period of chartered flights, according to its General Manager, Alecos Michaelides.
Replying to questions from members of the House Communications Committee on the vital issue of open skies and especially the extension of the period of chartered flights, he noted that a small share will be left to Cyprus Airways too.
Chairman of House Finance Committee and DIKO MP, Nicolas Papadopoulos claimed that the memorandum includes relevant provision for open skies.
Mr. Michailides indicated that there are open skies in Cyprus and there is no restriction among the member-states of the European Union.
He noted that no European country can reach a bilateral agreement with a third country causing problems to its national carrier.
“The problem would be enormous if Cyprus Airways closed and was not offset by other airlines”, he stressed.
Finally, he said that the Ministry went into bilateral agreements with Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
