The findings of the University of Cyprus in cooperation with the Cyprus Tourism Organization on the evaluation of the hotels by tourists that visited the island are positive for the Cyprus tourist product.
According to the survey which covered two aspects, the value for money and the overall experience, most tourists that visited Cyprus and stayed in luxury hotels in February-June 2005 said that they are fully satisfied.
65% of the tourists that stayed in 5-star hotels said that they are fully satisfied not only for the value of money but also for the overall experience, which includes location, service and cleanness.
The 1, 2 and 3-star hotels and the A, B and C category apartments concentrated lower rates of fully satisfied tourists, while tourist villages had the lowest rate of fully satisfied tourists (27% value for money and 25% overall experience).
It is worth noting that the rate of fully satisfied tourists in overall experience is higher than that of the value of money.
Specifically, 49% of tourists said that they are fully satisfied from the overall experience in tourist villas and only 32% said that they are satisfied from the value for money.
A positive message for the tourist industry is that the rate of non-satisfied tourists is low. According to the survey, however, it is important to know that tourists usually do not give low grades in the five-grade scale used for those surveys.
Tourists were mostly not satisfied with the value for money rather than the overall experience, while most tourists were not satisfied with the hotels of B and C category. Although this rate is low, “it must be taken seriously into account, especially if this concerns luxury hotels”.
