According to Finance Ministry data, the tourists’ spending per capita in August 2006 recorded an increase of 2.7% to £492.26 against £479.27 in the corresponding month of 2005. However, compared with August 2001, when it was shot to £527.67, the spending per capita has recorded a drop of 6.7%.
In January-August 2006, the average spending per capita showed an increase of 6.5% to £402.43 against £378 last year. Compared with the corresponding period of 2001, the average spending per capita is down 4.8%. “The fact that there has been an increase in the spending per capita during 2006 shows that we have achieved our goal for the attraction of quality tourism”, a CTO representative told StockWatch.
