According to CYSTAT data released on Thursday, tourist revenues in October 2006 recorded an increase of 2% to £122.9 million against £120.5 million in the corresponding month of 2005. In October 2006, tourist arrivals dropped 3.2%.
In January-October 2006, tourist revenues surged 3.1% to £961.1 million compared to £932.3 million in the corresponding period of 2005. Tourist arrivals for the same period fell 2.4%.
Spending per capita
The increase in tourist revenues is attributable to the fact that the tourists visiting Cyprus spend more. The total spending per capita showed an increase of 5.3% to £434.06 against £412.17 in October 2005.
The highest spending per capita (£617.47) was observed in Russian tourists (+40% compared to 2005), followed by the Austrian tourists, whose spending per capita stood at £489.85.
The average spending per capita of the British and Italian tourists amounted to £458.89. Italian spending surged by 38.1% and Belgian by 39.6% to £456.83 compared to £327.33 last year.
