Tourist revenues drop below £1bln

According to CYSTAT data released on Tuesday, tourist revenues in 2004 continued their downward trend. Despite an increase in tourist arrivals by 2%, tourist revenues recorded a drop of 3.2% to £982.3 million in 2004 compared to 2003. It is the first time in the past six years that tourist revenues dropped below £1 billion. In 1998, tourist revenues had reached £878.3 million.

Tourist revenues in December fell 12.4% to £28.8 million against £32.9 million in the corresponding month of 2003. Similarly, tourist arrivals dropped 6.2% to 78.7 thousand.
