Tourist arrivals in the occupied territories have recorded a sharp increase in January-September 2004. According to the T/C “Finance and Tourism Ministry”, total tourist arrivals showed an increase of 27.6% to 130 thousand, pushing hotel reservations up 9.6%. 50% of the tourists that cross into the occupied areas are British.

Secretary of Tour Operators Association, Christos Petsides said that this development is not expected to affect the southern part of the island due to the restricted number of hotels in the occupied north.
