According to CYSTAT data released on Friday, tourist arrivals in September 2008 fell 3.2% to 305,348 compared to 315,437 in the corresponding month of 2007.
This drop is attributable to the British tourist market. The British arrivals declined 11.6% to 157,863 from 178,664 in September 2007. Lower decreases were observed in the tourist arrivals from Greece (-3.5%) and Germany (-2.4%).
On the other hand, Russian arrivals surged 13.4% to 25,898 from 22,839 in September 2007 and Swedish tourist arrivals recorded an increase of 15.4% to 20,400 from 17,677 in 2007.
In January – September 2008, tourist arrivals slipped 0.3% to 1,965,855 compared to 1,972,493 in the corresponding period of 2007.
