Revenue from tourism recorded a significant rise, by 42.9%, in February 2023, compared with the same month last year, while revenue for the first two months of this year, recorded an increase of 50.7%, the Cyprus Statistical Service said on Tuesday.
According to the Service’s latest data, based on the results of a Passenger Survey it carried out, revenue from tourism reached €56.6 million in February 2023 compared to €39,6 mn in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 42.9%.
For the period of January – February 2023, revenue from tourism is estimated at €102,2 mn compared to €67.8 mn in the corresponding period of 2022, recording an increase of 50.7%, it said.
Decrease in average expenditure per person
According to the same data, the average expenditure per person was €475,39 in February 2023 compared to €550,10 in February 2022, recording a decrease of 13.6%.
Tourists from the United Kingdom – Cyprus largest tourist market with 27.2% of the total number tourists in February 2023 – the Service said, spent on average €62.35 per day, while tourists from Israel - the second largest market during the specific month with 12.8% - spent on average €103,51. Tourists from Greece, which is the third largest market with 12.6%, spent on average €47,34 per day.
