Tourism in Cyprus hasn’t lost much…

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism condemns and describes as unsubstantiated and misleading the Democrat Party’s allegations that “the government and the Ministry are responsible for not taking measures on time as far as tourism in Cyprus is concerned”.

The Ministry supports that “Cyprus hasn’t suffered significant losses” and insists that “no other European country has taken similar measures”.

It also mentions that the Democrat Party is well aware of the fact that government took measures on time as “its representatives in Parliament voted for those measures”. The announcement then points out that during the last four years Cyprus had 51% increase in revenue from tourism , while the corresponding international tourism revenue increased by 12%.

Finally, the announcement refers to the present year and its difficulties, stressing that this year Europe’s growth rate is almost inexistent (against Cyprus growth rate 2.5 – 3%). Consequently, being one of the most expensive tourist destinations, Cyprus simply takes part in a wider problem.
