The conflict between employers and trade unions in the Cyprus tourist industry seems almost inevitable, as the Hoteliers’ Association, PASYXE, is adamant on its positions with regard to the signing of a new union contract. At the Annual General Meeting, the Chairman of PASYXE, Avgerinos Nikitas, said that the Association insists on the conditions it had set for the conclusion of the union contract, which had been agreed since 1998 but they have not been put into effect so far.
It is noted that the trade unions of the hotel employees are threatening with strike measures if the Association does not sign the new union contracts. The strikes are expected to affect negatively the tourist industry and the Cyprus economy in general.
