The Shipping Deputy Ministry announced on Friday that the Council of Ministers has approved a three-year extension of the passenger maritime link contract between Cyprus and Greece. This extension, covering 2025, 2026, and 2027, comes after a thorough evaluation of the link's performance indicators, particularly focusing on passenger numbers since its inception in 2022.
As it is noted, since the service began in June 2022, over 21,000 passengers have utilized the maritime link, along with more than 7,000 cars and 700 pets. These figures underscore the importance and necessity of the service, which continues to grow in popularity and usage, the Deputy Ministry said in its press release.
Moreover it noted that since its launch, the Cyprus-Greece passenger maritime link has been met with significant public enthusiasm, far surpassing initial expectations. The service has opened up a new tourist market, offering travelers a convenient alternative to reach Cyprus and the rest of mainland Europe with their private cars and motorcycles.
The Shipping Deputy Ministry emphasized its commitment to the smooth operation of this maritime link, which has become an essential transportation option, particularly for passengers who face challenges traveling by air due to medical reasons, age, or fear of flying.
