The CSE general index and FTSE20 soared higher for a third consecutive session by 4.4% and 5.5% respectively, due to banks that were the major gainers of the day, up by 3.2%. Specifically, the CSE general index scrambled up 1.9% to 82.8 points, while FTSE20 gained 2.7% reaching 314.8 points.
The Bank of Cyprus climbed 3.7% (4 cents) to CYP 1.13, while the Popular Bank jumped 1.9% (2 cents) to CYP 1.05 that is 6 cents higher than last week's three-year low.
Trading totaled CYP 677 thousand, while investors' interest was mostly attracted by the Bank of Cyprus (17.7% of the total volume) and the Popular Bank (15.9% of the total volume). Lanitis Development (9% of the turnover) was up 1.5% to 70 cents. The other most marketable stocks of the day -due to pre-agreed packages - were Jupiter {ARI} (7.8% of the total volume) and Era split Income (5.2% of the turnover). ARI closed at 12.9 cents and +3.2%, while ESI slid 6.2% to 13.6 cents.
Finally, the Bank of Cyprus warrants (4.8% of the total volume) surged 13.3% to 15.3 cents, the Hellenic Bank (5% of the turnover) inched up 3% to 69 cents, while Louis (3.1% of the turnover) closed at 14 cents with gains of 2.9%.
Overall, 61 securities went up, 22 fell and 18 remained unchanged.
