In light of the recent significant changes in European regulatory matters, the Executive Training Department of the region's largest consultants of the financial services sector, MAP S.Platis organizes "The Cyprus EMIR Conference 2013", a unique international conference in Cyprus on the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR). The new regulatory provisions introduced by EMIR impose on all financial institutions dealing in OTC derivatives new obligations on clearing, trade reporting and risk mitigation as well as critical practical dilemmas on how to deal with these new obligations. Participants will have a unique opportunity to be updated by renowned professionals in the field, be presented with practical solutions, exchange views and discuss issues pertaining to the new EU regulatory regime.

“The Cyprus EMIR Conference 2013” by MAP S.Platis shall take place on the 30th of November 2013, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Limassol.

EMIR: Scope and Purpose

EMIR aims at improving transparency by ensuring that information on all European derivative transactions will be reported to Trade Repositories (TRs) and be accessible to supervisory authorities, including the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).

Additionally, EMIR requires standardised derivative contracts to be cleared through Central Counterparties (CCPs) and seeks to establish stringent organisational, business conduct and prudential requirements for the performance of activities of CCPs and TRs.

EMIR imposes three main categories of obligations on market participants:

•Clearing Obligation, via a CCP, for those OTC derivatives subject to a mandatory clearing obligation;
•Reporting Obligation, report every derivative contract they enter to a trade repository;
•Risk Mitigation Techniques, implement new risk management standards, including operational processes and margining on OTC derivatives not cleared by a CCP.
