The Telecom Regulator, Vasos Pyrgos decided to increase the monthly fixed charge for the subscribers of CYTA fixed telephony from £8.56 to £9.35, including the VAT. The decision will be effective from October 1, 2007 and the Authority tries hard to cancel it. Mr. Pyrgos, on the other hand, believes that according to certain studies, the increase is justified.
CYTA Chairman, Stavros Kremmos told StockWatch that the increase in the fixed charge will not contribute to the development of telecommunications in Cyprus. “We will try to cancel the decision”, he added.
Sources say that a new rise might urge CYTA’s subscribers to turn to its competitors, who offer fixed telephony services without fixed charges.
