Primary school teachers are staging a protest today, by ending lessons at 11.30 a.m. this morning. Teachers are demanding the same working hours as secondary school teachers, through their union POED.
The Ministry of Education considers teachers’ demands as unacceptable because, according to a relevant survey, in the EU teachers in similar positions work more hours than those in Cyprus. Teachers however dispute the findings of the said survey, stating that they have also carried out a study in cooperation with MEPEY which showed different results.
The POED Council will meet on Thursday to consider the matter further. The Ministry of Education however considers the issue closed and not subject to negotiations.
