Energy Service Manager, Solon Kasinis stated on Monday that the talks on the transfer of natural gas to Cyprus in compressed instead of liquefied form in the past few months are“disrespect for the state”. In his interview to StockWatch, Mr. Kasinis criticized strongly certain individuals and the political persons for sparking off talks on the compressed natural gas (CNG) at a time that decisions have already been taken.
“It is not possible every time that the government takes a decision for such big projects, certain people appoint experts, journalists or others in order to promote their own ideas”, he stressed.
Fuel prices are a mystery
In relation to the fuel prices, Mr. Kasinis reiterated that the proximity in the prices among the oil companies is surprising.
“The financial data differ from the one oil company to another, however, they all sell their fuel at the same price. Howe can such thing happen?”, he wondered.
“Hellenic Petroleum, for example, bought their infrastructure from BP, while Petrolina and ESSO are in the same facilities for many years now, which means that they have written down their expenses and don’t have the same expenses as the other companies. What we see, however, is that they all sell fuel at the same price. Isn’t it suspicious? I must repeat that I am not the one to say whether there is a cartel or not”, he noted.
Energy center
In his interview to StockWatch, Mr. Kasinis expressed his discontent for the delays in the transfer of natural gas, since the initial studies and decisions were taken six years ago.
However, he was enthusiastic for the opening of the Energy Center in Vasiliko, which will host the terminal for the transfer and deliquefaction of the natural gas near the new EAC station.
“During the last meeting of the Committee, in which EAC participates, it was decided that we have to go on with the completion of the document for the tenders. We will be ready in two weeks. Then, we estimate that the tenders will open in two months and everything will be ready for the start of the construction”, Mr. Kasinis said.
The project will be finalized in 2013 with the BOT method and will cost more than €1 billion.
Renewable sources of energy
Mr. Kasinis referred to the renewable sources of energy and expressed his discontent for the delay in the launch of Aeolian parks. He also referred to the Service’s studies for the possible creation of solar thermal stations.
Nuclear energy
After the presentation of nuclear energy issues by a German expert, which aroused strong feelings to the Ecologists, Mr. Kasinis commented on the creation of nuclear stations.
“It is not possible every time that the government takes a decision for such big projects, certain people appoint experts, journalists or others in order to promote their own ideas”, he stressed.
