Following the spell of bad weather over the weekend, which, coupled with hailstones, caused extensive damage to crops and fruit trees, officers of the Agricultural Insurance Organisation visited the affected areas in Limassol and Paphos in order to estimate the damages. According to the Organisation’s policy, a compensation will be made to farmers of 75% of the value of crops lost.
Further, during a meeting yesterday between the Ministers of Agriculture, Finance, Trade & Industry and officers of the Planning Department, it was decided to allot CYP 11 million as support to farmers on addition to compensation from the Agricultural Insurance Organisation. Funds disbursed will include CYP 1.9 million to fruit tree growers and 1 million to almond tree growers.
