The House Finance Committee submitted a bill on Monday, requesting the increase in the number of families entitled to a special student benefit. According to a Finance Ministry representative, the current legislation does not allow the allocation of a student benefit to families whose children work in the public or private sector or offer a research with remuneration and receive a salary exceeding £5,000 in the specific academic year.
The new bill does not allow the allocation of a student benefit to all students who work and receive salaries exceeding £10,000, while it will be effective from November 1, 2006 in order to cover the students of the current academic year as well.
