Shipping Council seeks to promote CY shipping

After its upgrading into a Chamber, the Shipping Council intends to promote the shipping industry and to strengthen its presence in the domestic market.
“The Cyprus shipping aims to attract more shipping companies more quality ships in its Register”, General Secretary of the Council, Thomas Kazakos told StockWatch.
Mr. Kazakos explained that Cyprus has 117 shipping companies which control a fleet of more than 2170 ships of 43 million tons capacity. Also, the Cypriot flag has 1200 vessels of 19-20 million tons capacity.
“The shipping industry employs 4 thousand employees. Most of them are Cypriots and the industry’s contribution to the GDP stands at 4%”, he added.
“Cyprus is regarded a superpower on shipping issues since it is classified 10th in the world and third in the EU”, he concluded.
The Shipping Council dates back to 1989.
