New Finance Minister, Vasos Shiarly, who took over his portfolio an hour ago, expressed his readiness to ease the difficulties that the banking sector faces.
Speaking during the ceremony at the Presidential Palace and addressing to President Christofias, he stressed that he is ready to contribute decisively and effectively to ease the difficulties that the banks currently face. “We must succeed”, he added.
At the same time, he ensured President Christofias that despite the difficult economic conditions they will achieve their economic targets. “I will work with consensus, collectivity, decisiveness and optimism for what can be achieved in those difficult times”, he said.
“As Finance Minister, I will try hard for a successful European Presidency by the Republic. I will seek close cooperation with the political parties and the social organizations so as to deal with the challenges successfully and collectively”, he added.
Addressing to the President again, Mr. Shiarly ensured he will do his best to complete the program of the governance since there are no margins for failure.
“Sacrifices must be made by all”, he noted.

After taking the reins of the Finance Ministry by outgoing Minister, Kikis Kazamias, Mr. Shiarly ensured the staff that they will tackle the problems of the economy.
“With hard work and your own help, we will achieve everything that seems impossible”, he added.
At the same time, he send a message of optimism, stressing that nothing can be won if not imbued with optimism. Finally, he revealed that he will receive no remuneration or allowance.
