According to CYSTAT data released on Friday, tourist arrivals in September recorded an increase of 5.6% to 303.506 against 287.358 in the corresponding month of 2003. For January-September, tourist arrivals showed an increase of 2.9% to 1,877,263 against 1,823,547 in the corresponding period of 2003.
British tourist arrivals surged 4.4%, Greek 33.1%, German 39.9% and Swiss 24.8%. On the other hand, Irish tourist arrivals dropped 34.5%, Norwegian 27.9%, Russian 16.2%, Swedish 12.4% and tourist arrivals from other countries fell 19.2%.
For January-September 2004, British tourist arrivals slipped 0.1%, while tourist arrivals from Germany and Greece increased by 35% and 21.8% respectively. Russian and Irish tourist arrivals showed a decline of 17.4% and 32% respectively.
