Salamis Tours announced on Tuesday that it decided to sell the self-owned ship, Ion, against $2.2 million, with a profit of £425 thousand.
According to the announcement, “Ion is a merchant ship (Ro/Ro) that belongs to the dependent company Ionian Navigation Co. Ltd. The ship was bought to serve the Piraeus-Limassol-Haifa route and since December 1999, it has regular weekly itineraries in Piraeus-Limassol-Haifa line, transferring loads.”
“After evaluating the needs and the demands of the market for the specific route and in order to offer the best possible service to its customers within the framework of the renewal of its fleet, the Company decided to sell Ion”, the announcement added.
Salamis Tours also decided to charter Maria G. in order to replace Ion temporarily.
The Company anticipates that the profit from the sale of the ship will affect the results for 2006.
