The revised state budget for 2021 will feature €339.9 million more in public spending of which €220 million concern expenditure related with the Coronavirus pandemic, according to a letter sent by Finance Minister Constantinos Petrides to the President of the House of Representatives Adamos Adamou.

In his letter, Petrides says that the revised budget includes the amendments tabled by the parliamentary parties during the debate before the original bill for the 2021 state budget was rejected by the Parliament’s plenary.

Petrides conveys the President of the Republic’s and the Council of Minister’s appeal to the parliament to urgently approve the 2021 state budget and the 2021-2023 medium term budgetary framework noting that “this will allow the state to continue operating amid the particularly difficult conditions created by the (coronavirus) pandemic.”

“The approval of the 2021 state budget bill is of paramount importance as it will secure the smooth operation of the state, the support of labour market and businesses, as well as the implementation of actions of the Recovery and Resilience Fund,” the Minister says.

“Non-approval of the bill will not allow access to the markets for securing the necessary liquidity to finance the actions necessary to support the economy,” Petrides warn.
