In an announcement released on Wednesday, DISY Vice President, Averof Neophytou wondered whether the Cypriot consumer will pay lower or higher cost for electricity from 2014 on the basis of the preliminary prices of the three companies that claim the contract for the natural gas.
Mr. Neophytou reminded that in its announcements dated 9 and 23 August 2010, DISY had referred to the issue and had raised the question above on behalf of the consumers.
“More than three weeks have gone by since then and we have received no answer”, he noted.
Mr. Neophytou said that “everybody expected that electricity prices would drop by 30% with the transfer of natural gas. We received no answer to this simple question to the Energy Regulator, DEFA, EACH and the Ministers of Commerce and Finance”.
“Indeed, we are surprised by this silence. Therefore, we bring back our question and we demand an answer. Because if for the wrong policies on the airlines the Cypriot tax payers paid €60 million for 2010 only, the natural gas might cost billions”, he concluded.
