PwC honours Phidias Pilides, Chairman and Senior Partner for ten years
PwC Cyprus organised a special event with the theme “A devoted course to success” in honour of Phidias Pilides, Chairman and Territory Senior Partner.
The event was held on Thursday, 20 October 2011 at the Nicosia Municipality to celebrate the completion of Mr Pilides’ term of office and his retirement from the organisation.
Mr Phidias Pilides described the event as "a milestone of continuity and evolution in the course of PwC”. He referred to important moments that defined his professional course, emphasising on the values of the organisation which characterise his relationship with the clients, associates and the society. Mr Pilides spoke of the "great professional University of PwC, which he came to know through the power of the global network and he noted: “I am truly thankful for having been able to begin my career as a young accountant at PwC and to have had the privilege to run this organization for two five-year terms. When I was first elected as managing partner in April 2002, my vision was to build a dynamic, forward-looking organisation which would develop continuously so as to provide services of ever-increasing quality; an innovative organization which would invest in young people and new ways of thinking” Mr Pilides continued “I feel fortunate for having had the opportunity to work at PwC. It has been a great honour for me to have been part of this organisation and to have contributed to what it is today”
Phidias Pilides is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He started his career with Coopers & Lybrand in London in 1974. He subsequently transferred to the firm in Cyprus and became a partner in 1983. He led the International Business Services of PwC and was elected Managing Partner of PwC Cyprus in 2002. Phidias Pilides is an active member of The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus and has served as President for two years, until June of 2001 whilst in 2006 he was elected President of the Cyprus Promotion Agency. For the past seven years he is the President of the Cyprus-Russian Business Association. Phidias Pilides has recently been appointed by the Council of Ministers as member of the Public Oversight Committee established in accordance with the European Union directives.
He has written many articles and has promoted Cyprus as an international financial centre in many seminars abroad. He has a constant social contribution through various educational, cultural, athletic and charitable associations of which he is an active member.
The newly elected Managing partner of PwC, Mr Evgenios Evgeniou will take over the leadership of the organisation as from 1 January 2011. During his speech Mr Evgeniou, after wholeheartedly thanking Mr Pilides for his contribution to the organisation all these years notes “The continuation of the organisation’s course brings for me a new role which I assume with a sense of responsibility towards my fellow partners who have trusted me, towards our clients and towards the people of PwC.
Our obligation and responsibility is first and foremost to safeguard the future and lead the organisation a step forward. To further strengthen our leadership position. This represents a great challenge and we are judged daily on how effectively we deal with this.”
