Public expenditure on education rose to 1,247.8 million euros in 2018, according to preliminary estimations of the Statistical Service, while as a GDP percentage fell to 5.9% from 6.1% in 2017 and 6.3% in 2016.

However, in absolute numbers, public expenditure in education rose approximately by 20 million in 2018, compared to 2017, when it reached 1,227.6 million.

As regards the educational attainment of people aged 20 years old and over, in 2019, 13% have elementary education, 46% finished secondary education, and 37% finished tertiary education.

The percentage of people who dropped out was 9.2% in 2019.
