The major issues of today’s financial press are the successive rises in the CSE and the sharp conflict between the MPs Nicos Pittokopites and Christos Pourgourides over the scandal at Paphos’ Savings Department.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Phileleftheros” under the title “Money in the market” refers to the ten successive rises in the CSE – recording gains of 10.4% - as well as the increased invest or s’ interest during yesterday’s session. Stockbrokers and analysts estimate that CSE is affected by the developments in world Stock Markets that have considerably recovered within the last weeks.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Simerini” under the titles “Conflict between Pourgourides-Pittokopites” and “Paphos’ Savings Department scandal: Casus Belli” deals with the conflict between the two MPs, caused by Mr. Pittokopites’s statements that Mr. Pourgourides has used his MP status to serve his own interests and has been condemned by the Cyprus Bar Association. Mr. Pourgourides called Mr. Pittokopites a “detractor”, while the latter stated that his is ready to take on his responsibilities as a president of Paphos’ Savings Department Trusteeship.

Elsewhere the newspaper refers to the issue of child benefit and the formation of a special committee in the Ministry of Finance to re-examine the applications of Cyprus Organization of Families with many children.

The “Economic” inset of newspaper “Alithia” refers to the speech of G. Georgiou (MP of DISY) in Parliament in the context of the Audit Committee findings over the Stock Exchange scandal. The report under the title “G. Georgiou challenges AKEL for the scandal” highlights that Mr. Georgiou has characterized as impudent AKEL’s attempt to convince that it had warned investors for the crash. Mr. Georgiou went on further saying that AKEL had urged investors to invest on “Demetra” and “Lefkonikos”.

Elsewhere the inset mentions that SEC is to call several listed companies to account over profit warnings.
