Major issue that dominates today's press is the new scandal concerning the Hellenic Savings Department in Pafos.
Specifically, the scandal concerns a company, which is a member of the Savings Department in Pafos illegally (only persons - and not companies - can be members of the department). The company has obtained four mortgage loans, without paying its dues to the Public Register of Lands.
The newspaper "Alithia" under the title "Mr. Pittokopites is open to criticisms" mentions that the president of the Savings Department, vice-president and MP of DIKO, Nikos Pittokopites, lays the blame to everyone but himself, while the newspaper has also publicized the copy of the specific certificate, signed and approved by Mr. Pittokopites. In addition, the president of the Audit Committee, Christos Pourgourides, has stated to "Alithia" that the committee will commence investigations "over this issue that involves public revenues loss".
The report also highlights the statements of Mr. Pittokopites, according to which 'the Public Register of Lands is responsible for accepting mortgages from companies that cannot be members". In this way, Mr. Pittokopites blames the Secretary and the officials of the Savings Department, the Auditor of the Republic, the Inspector of Development Co-operative, as well as the Audit Department of Co-operation.
The newspaper "Phileleftheros" under the title "Savings Department under investigation for not paying dues to the Public Register of Land" quotes that the Minister of Internal Affairs, Andreas Panayiotou and the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Nikos Rolandes, demanded the conduct of investigations. The newspaper also mentions that Mr. Panayiotou confirmed the issue and laid the blame to the Public Register of Land officials that accepted the certificate from the specific company.
The newspaper "Simerini" under the title "Hotels on crisis" highlights that the relationship between employers and employees have deteriorated due to the renewal of labour contracts, salaries, benefits and employment conditions.
