The major issues that dominate today’s financial press are the reopening of the file concerning CSE scandals and the involvement of several companies, legal entities and individuals that evaded Income Tax, as well as yesterday’s conference of the Parliamentary Commerce Committee about the issue of profiteering.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Phileleftheros” under the title “On the track of tax evaders” mentions that the Parliament and the government will shortly reopen the file concerning CSE scandals. This act aims to locate companies, legal entities and individuals that have evaded Income Tax. According to the report, the Minister of Finance, Takis Klerides, will present the file to the Parliamentary Finance Committee and “he will be particularly revealing about the million pounds of profits that have evaded Income Tax”. The Finance Committee is expected to hold a meeting next week and, according to the report, “several companies will possibly brought into Justice”.

Elsewhere, the newspaper refers to nine financial companies and their bank liabilities that reach the amount of CYP 112 million.

The “Economy-Stock Exchange” inset of newspaper “Simerini” under the title “Profiteering is here” refers to the convention of the Parliamentary Commerce Committee and then talks about profiteering and goods overcharging. According to the report, there are indeed cases of profiteering that affect Cypriot market, however this phenomenon must be effaced in any way.

The newspaper “Phileleftheros” supports that the Commerce Committee has declared war against all profiteers “having irrefutable evidence by the Consumers Association investigation”. The newspaper also highlights Nicos Rolandes’ statements that “those MPs who refer to price rises are irresponsible” and “ what they (MPs) say is nonsense. They can lay down the law and we will not join EU. Because what they say are ‘stabs in the back’.

Then, the “Economy-Stock Exchange” inset of newspaper “Simerini” refers to the Stockwatch article about the reestimation of financial indexes by the Ministry of Finance, after Ministry’s revised estimates for further reductions on tourism.
