The surgical procedure which the President of the Republic Mr Nicos Anastasiades underwent yesterday at “Mount Sinai” hospital in New York was absolutely successful.

The good news for the President was announced shortly after midnight, through his account on Twitter, by government spokesman, Nicos Christodoulides.

In a written statement, Mr. Christodoulides said the procedure was performed by the heart surgeon Professor Dr David Adams and concerned the repair of the mitral and the tricuspid heart valve.

He noted that the surgical procedure, which was of the type “Maze,” was also intended to cure the heart arrhythmia that the President was experiencing at times. The procedure progressed smoothly with no complications or particular problems.

“Present during the surgical procedure was, among others, Dr Marinos Soteriou, the personal cardiologist of the President, who along with Dr Savvas Kadis, has accompanied the President of the Republic to New York from Cyprus”, he added.

Following the surgical procedure the President of the Republic was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit where he will remain for the next immediate period of time.

The condition of the health of the President of the Republic is steady and is progressing smoothly within the expected bounds.

The President was admitted to surgery yesterday around 5:30 Cyprus time.

The surgery lasted about 4 hours.

President Anastasiades will remain in hospital 4-5 days and then he will return to the hotel, monitored by doctors.

He is expected to return to Cyprus before the Christmas holidays.
