All the set procedures will be followed regarding the issue of the Auditor General, according to Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis.

In a statement to CNA about the government's next steps concerning the Auditor General, Letymbiotis said that "all the procedures prescribed by the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus will be followed."

He added that "once the President's decisions are made, they will be announced."

The Supreme Constitutional Court of Cyprus ruled on Wednesday that Auditor General of the Republic, Odysseas Michaelides, should be dismissed from his position.

The ruling of the Court, which convened as a Council, was unanimous.

The eight judges of the Supreme Constitutional Court, ruled that the former Auditor General, based on all testimonies, "had crossed the line and exhibited behaviour which fell short of expectations”, rendering him incompetent. It also found Michaelides to be liable for inappropriate conduct.

The decision to dismiss the Auditor General is binding for the President of the Republic.

Already, due to President Nikos Christodoulides being overseas, acting President of the Republic, Annita, Demetriou signed the relevant order dismissing Michaelides from the position of Auditor General.

The dismissal was included in Thursday’s issue of the Official Gazette of the Republic.
