President reappoints Commissioner for Administration and Human Rights Protection

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides received on Friday the Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights Maria Stylianou - Lottides, on the occasion of her reappointment, at the Presidential Palace.

President Christodoulides noted that institution of the Commissioner of Administration was introduced in 1991 and its aim is to protect human rights and freedoms.

The President underlined Lottides' experience. "I am certain that you will respond successfully to your serious and high duties," he said addressing the Commissioner.

On her part, Lottides said that the institution of the Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights is a very important independent institution, which stands by all individuals for all the issues that concern them, noting at the same time that "for six years we have been by their side and we continue to do so."

In statements afterwards, the Commissioner noted that six years later, "we are stepping in more vigorously to protect every citizen, every governed person, to be by their side to remove any discrimination, whether it has to do with disabilities, sexual orientation, refugee status, or gender."
