President: No one above Cyprus reputation, ICIJ report will be investigated

No one is above the reputation of Cyprus, President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides said on Tuesday evening, assuring that all information that has seen the light of day in relation to the investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) will be investigated within a specific timeline.

In statements to the Press in Paliometocho, on the sidelines of an event to inaugurate the new facilities of the Olympion School, the President was invited to comment on the report of of the ICIJ investigation and was asked what the Government will do about it. President Christodoulides stressed that "no one, but no one, is above the reputation of our country", recalling that in addition to what has been done over the years, shortly after assuming his duties and on the occasion of the sanctions by the British and Americans, the Government proceeded to further strengthen the entire institutional framework.

He assured that everything that has seen the light of day will be investigated within a timeline, reiterating that "no one, but no one is above the reputation of our country".

In response to a question regarding the investigation timeline, President Christodoulides made it clear that "we have to get this issue over with", and noted that "the reputation of our country, the credibility of our country is crucial in the efforts of the entire Cypriot people, so that we have a strong and resilient economy that will allow us to have a targeted social policy, and a strong economy that will allow us to invest in the areas of Health, Education and other sectors".

"So, of course, it is an issue that is very high on our priorities," he added.

He also reiterated for the umpteenth time, as he said, that no one can be and is above the name and reputation of our country and that everything that sees the light of day will be investigated.
