Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides is travelling to Paris on Thursday to participate in an international conference on Gaza and Nicosia’s proposal on the humanitarian corridor will be on the table.
Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis told the press that the President has accepted an invitation to participate in the conference on civilians in Gaza, which will be held at the level of Heads of State, Government and Foreign Ministers. The participants will discuss issues such as the restoration of water, fuel and electricity supplies and the humanitarian aid to the population.
He said that Cyprus’ proposal will be discussed at length, adding that the French President noted the benefits and perspective of our initiative in his statements, after the recent European Council. He also said that the President will thoroughly inform the participants about the parameters of the proposal.
According to the Spokesperson, President Christodoulides will also refer to the contacts he had in recent days with the President of Egypt, the King of Jordan, the Prime Minister of Israel, the President of the European Commission and the US Secretary of State, as well as the consultations the Foreign Minister had with the Palestinian Authority and officials of neighbouring states.
Letymbiotis once again reiterated that "the substantial support that our initiative receives, highlights the role that our country can play in the current crisis and in our region in general."
He spoke of the fact that Cyprus is the only EU member state in the region and referred to its geographic proximity, as well as of the excellent political relations it has with the states in the area.
Replying to a question, he said that on the sidelines of the conference the President of the Republic will have bilateral meetings.
