The President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides met today in Doha with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during his official visit to the country.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency, President Christodoulides arrived at the Palace this morning, where he was officially received, with a military procession paying tribute, followed by the performance of the National Anthems of Cyprus and Qatar. After that the President of the Republic and the Emir of Qatar held a private meeting, which was followed by extended talks between the delegations of the two countries.
As stated, among the issues discussed during the talks were developments in the Middle East, including the Republic of Cyprus' initiative to establish a sea corridor for humanitarian aid to Gaza, the current situation in the Cyprus problem, bilateral relations, as well as energy and investment issues.
It is added that at noon President Christodoulides will attend a lunch hosted in his honour by the Emir of Qatar.
It is also noted that earlier this morning President Christodoulides had a meeting with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, while it is recalled that a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two countries in the field of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Technology was signed at the Ministry of Education in Doha.
The President of the Republic is accompanied in Doha by the Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki, the Ambassador of the Republic to Qatar Nicolas Manolis, the Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President Marilena Raouna and the Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou, the statement concludes.
