The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, congratulated Costas Kadis on his successful hearing before the European Parliament as Commissioner-designate for Fisheries and Oceans, in a post on the online platform "X" on Wednesday evening.
President Christodoulides notes that Cyprus is taking on an upgraded portfolio of critical importance for the European economy, for the promotion of the green transition and the sustainable management of marine resources.
"We look forward to working closely with Kadis, in view of Cyprus assuming the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026, in order to build a resilient, competitive and sustainable fisheries sector, to strengthen the blue economy, and to address the challenges that lie ahead," the President of the Republic added.
Moreover, outgoing Cypriot EU Commissioner, Stella Kyriakides, conveyed in a post on "X" her warm congratulations to Kadis for his confirmation as the next European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans. "I wish him every success in his new role," Kyriakides wrote.
