Cyprus President, Nikos Christodoulides, and the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, discussed on Thursday, during a meeting they had in New York, about the Cyprus problem, the two countries' bilateral relations and regional developments.
According to a press release issued by the Presidency, Christodoulides said that he will soon visit Abu Dhabi to participate in the COP28 Conference on Climate change that will take place in the UAE capital from the end of November until the beginning of December.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
