Email threats similar to those sent on Friday to schools across Cyprus have also been sent to several other European countries, according to information Europol has shared with Cyprus Police. Police spokesperson, Christos Andreou, told CNA that Europol records email threats sent from various addresses to schools, shopping centers and other places in European countries.
Cyprus Police have appealed to both Europol and Interpol to investigate the threatening emails and identify the sender. Andreou reiterated that the email address from which the messages were sent was public on the Internet along with passwords. He also noted that the wording of the message was poorly translated in Greek from another language.
A response to a Police request to Interpol, in order to establish whether the sender of the email was from a specific country outside of Europe, is still pending. Asked whether there is a specific time frame within which the Police expect a response, Andreou said that it cannot be specified.
