The Renewable Energy Sources companies expressed their discontent on Wednesday due to “a lack of clear and balanced policy and the promotion of wind parks to the burden of all other RES”.

Speaking during a press conference, Chairman of the Association, Giorgos Georgiou criticized the government for breaking its word and said that “the installation of photovoltaic in 2011 is inexistent despite the 1300 applications”. Mr. Georgiou urged the government to find ways to meet its commitments.

“By the end of 2011, the wind technology in Cyprus will have covered 50% of the EU target until 2020, while the photovoltaic will hardly cover 1% of the target”, he noted.

General Secretary of the Association, Kyriakos Kallatas reminded that according to Brussels directives, the promotion of RES will have to be parallel and balanced”

“The social policy must be fair so that the citizens decide on the cheapest form of energy”, he added.

“The association decided to ask for the submission of a supplementary budget so that the approval of at least half of the 1300 applications is feasible in 2011 and the remaining to be promoted in 2012”, he said.

One of their requests is to transfer megawatts from 2016 to 2011 with a smooth increase of the megawatts each year so as to cover the target.

“At the same time, it examines several proposals, such as the submission of VAT to the Special Fund, which corresponds to the last four cents of the fuel price increase per litre that stands at €5,640,000”, he said.

“They decided to protest via their abstinence from the Save Energy fair organized by OEB”, he concluded.
